I truly love photography! That goes for both taking pictures and post-processing them. Though, I have mainly been shooting different flowers and still nature, I am also interested in capturing people in action. I have had some experience with photo-shooting in a studio too. Close-up and macro find their place in the list of my passions as well. During my nine years of practice I have used both film and digital imaging equipment, dealt with developing and printing, taught myself to usedifferent post-processing programmes and spent countles hours on reading about photography. When visiting places I have not been to before, I feel, figuratevly speaking, naked, when I do not have my camera with me. I am very critical about my own photos and tend to hit the delete button quite often – I only keep the images I find to be worthwhile and from time to time also some that I would have concidered to be trash, but I have been asked to save. In my opinion the right combination is the key to the best result. Then again – what is a right combination? There are rules of thumb for taking photos, but as the old saying goes: “Rules are for breaking!”. Seeing the beauty of a photo is highly subjective and there is no right or wrong, but if enough people concider an image to be good, then it must be! I am currently using a Nikon D40 – a little bit outdated but otherwise good cropped phrame DSLR. Zenit – an old Soviet SLR – has been in my service as well. A full phrame (or FX as Nikon calls it) DSLR is yet to be experienced.

Basketball

I started playing basketball back in 2000 and practiced it actively until 2006. In the beginning I was going to trainings 2-3, later even up to 6 times a week. At the age of 14-15 I was relatively taller than the others. I was often playing the position of no 4 (power forward) or 5 (center). I did not particularly like playing near and on the key (a restricted area in which players can stay for only a limited amount of time) and usually preferred no 3 (small forward).

I never achieved anything great with basketball. I have a couple of medallions from various smaller streetball- and school competitions, but nothing big. Almost every teenager playing basketball dreams about becoming a professional. Well, so did I. But the truth be told, my statistics were never good enough to move to a higher level than a passionate hobbyist.

Since I moved to Denmark, I have not played basketball as much. One might come up with several reasons and excuses like the lack of time, the limited number of basketball courts in Denmark (copared to Estonia for instance), not enough people to play with and so on, but probably I have just been a little lazy. Nevertheless, I still feel strongly about the game and if I am not playing myself, I try to follow some games on TV or even better, go and see them live.

Phones

nokia5110.gif image by sunkastI got my first cell phone in 2000. It was a Nokia 5110 - one of the best models out there back then. Before 2010 Nokia phones were my absolute favourites. During the first years of this century I spent countless hours reading about the new releases, collecting brochures, printing information sheets and putting together my own catalog about Nokias. Being crazy about cellphones, one would probably think, that I have owned tens of different models, but in fact I have not. The phones in my service after the 5110, have been 5210, 3510i, 5140, 6280 and N76 if anyone can still remember those oldies.

When high school started I had less time to deal with cutting and gluing. At the same time the whole mobile phone market exploded. New phones came out so often, that I eventually stopped collecting information about them. I only had time to read about them in the internet. But ever since smartphones came on the market (starting with the first iPhone), Nokia has not, in my opinion at least, been able to compete with them. Yes, they have their own smartphones, but again, the Symbian operating system has gotten old. It does not offer the things like for example Android does.

I have never actually considered buying an iPhone. Although it is often entitled to be the mother of all smartphones, I still find it a bit limited. I am not talking about the hardware, because that is powerful. There are just the limitations of Apple software that I do not like.

In the beginning of 2010 when I heard about the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro Android smartphone, I seriously started thinking about changing the brand from
Nokia to something else. When it was released in Denmark, I found it to be too small for me and resumed being on standby for another full QWERTY Android phone. In December 2010 I finally said good bye to Nokia (at least for the time being) and bought the HTC Desire Z.

Roller skating

Unlike the lack of basketball courts, there are plenty of small asphalted sporting roads in Denmark that are perfect for roller skating. Once in a while during a summer season I like to go out and have a small tour on my roller skates. Just a few kilometers do the trick - a little movement gives a good feeling

Rubics

When I was little, I had a Rubics cube that was mixed up. No matter how much I tried, I only managed to finish just one side and when I moved on to the next one, the first one got mixed. I knew there must be a system to complete the puzzle, but I never looked for help and just tried to push through. In 2010 one of my friends gave me a Rubics cube as a housewarming present. Although the cube was fully functional, it was, as it said on the packaging, meant for blondies and every little square had a pink sticker on it. So it was a completed Rubics cube and no matter which way one would turn the faces, it would still remain completed. I got inspired by the memory of the "unsolvable" cube from my childhood and decided to figure out the real system. I made new stickers with different colors for each face of the cube, mixed it up and started googleing for solutions. I found a video where the turning combinations were clearly explained and made a small cheat sheet to remember it all. By constantly staring at the sheet first and later just consulting it every now and then, I finally figured it out. One just needs to remember a handful of combinations and practice - it actually is not that difficult!

Poker

Playing poker is also a small hobby of mine. I have an account in PokerStars and I am usually playing freerolls or with the play money. In addition to the classical Texas Holdem I like Omaha and 2-7 single draw.
